SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAM

The School Health Program (SHP) was started in November 1999 to substitute the Medical Services Program. The aim of SHP is to examine health of students in elementary schools and proved them with the needed treatment. SHP cooperates closely with the local Department of Education and Department of Health (DoH) in each Kurdish provinces. In this project, SHP pays salaries to physicians, assistant physicians, drugs and medical materials, and transportations. The DoH contributes with the available medicine, which is usually obtained within the UNR 986 (oil for food). The DoE assist in organizing the SHP activities. This project has received an enormous public support. All major TV stations and newspapers covered SHP activities.

 

The Prime Minister of PUK's Government, Mr. Kosrat Rasoul, opened SHP on November 15, 1999. On his left Dr. Salah Aziz, the Director of ASK Humanitarian Aid Program. On his right Dr. Yadgar, Minister of Health, between him and Dr. Aziz, Mr. Khasrow, the Minister of Education.

Up to May 30, 2000, ASK-SHP has served
Over 55,000 students in 60 Schools.
